Study and Paint along the beautiful and scenic St Croix River with Painter, Kami Polzin

2 Workshops Offered
Intended, but not required, as a continuation of classes.  These two, 3 day workshops are designed and divided up to be progressive.  I'd like to stress that it is not 'required' that you take both, however those who do will work more advanced in August but both will be working on strengthening the basic elements of painting 'en plein'.  Starting off in early June will give you the opportunity to use what you have learned and apply it in the first half of summer, then come back with intentional questions, and also to further add to your bank of information and yet again apply to your painting the remainder of the summer.  At the June workshop, you will be given 'suggested' exercises to take home and paint on your own while studying
'en plein air'.
Registering for both sessions (6 total days), Tuition 545.00
or each class (3 days) 295.00 per class.

Class Description:

We will be getting down to the ‘nuts and bolts’ of structuring and designing your work in a simplified manor to emphasize your idea and inspiration.
My teaching is designed and focuses around the basic and necessary elements of - design and composition, value, and color temperature relationships, to build a painting ‘en Plein Air’. The emphasis will be how to simplify and organize your masses in one cohesive statement and also to build a clearer understanding of the light effect at hand
Working from life is a crucial element of painting whether in the studio or in the field. The knowledge gained working directly from nature is invaluable!

Each 3 days will include demonstrations, discussion, painting exercises, and plenty of time to paint with individual easel critiques. This 3 Day Painting workshop will give you the opportunity to completely engross yourself in solid painting and study time along the banks of the wild and scenic St Croix River .

**********************************************************************************************

Kami Polzin is a highly sought after painter and instructor here in the St Croix Valley and abroad.  Her painting and teaching has earned her numerous awards and has led her to Europe 2 years in a row where she painted and taught in the hills on Tuscany.  Her passion and enthusiasm for painting is contagious and inspirational!
Kami's skills in interpreting nature in a simplified and direct manner have been fine tuned over many years of painting both in the studio and outside from life.  Her ability to pass that on to her students in an inspirational way has built a reputation amongst students and painters throughout the St. Croix Valley and beyond

"As a painter, I believe in grounding ourselves with the fundamental elements as a beginning and ongoing part of the process of painting and creating art.  When learning the piano, one learns where the keys are before they are truly able to make beautiful, expressive music.  Painting is much the same.  We must know the elements inside and out before we are able to take our work to higher levels."

2 Day Still Life Workshop:
Full, please stay tuned for upcoming workshops.  Thank you.
9:00 - 4:00 both days

Tuition 185.00

Class Description:
The 2 days will begin with lecture and discussion on the elements of painting a still life including a complete demonstration from start to finish.  After lecture and demo on the first day you will begin the drawing of your painting on an 11x14 canvas and begin massing in your large areas of the canvas.  By the end of the second day you can expect to have a finished painting working directly from life and end with a group critique.

This workshop is designed to fine tune your color temperature eye bringing life and vitality to your work.  Within each mass of color is subtle color temperature changes that brings life and light to a painting if  observed and noted.  We will be working on mixing large pools of 'mass' colors and focus of seeing what cool and warm shifts are happening within the light and dark masses.  Many painters can see the 'vibrations' of color but are not sure how to handle it with paint.  In these two days we will be focusing on how to work with all this vibrating color you see and teach you to see it more clearly.

I look forward to painting with you!
